General Designer

Contract name: Chief Designer for the modernization of the technological part of the Porąbka-Żar Pumped Storage Power Plant
Scope of the contract:
  • • integration of four new hydro units with auxiliary installations, power output system from the generator and starting inverters supplied by GE,
  • • modernization of 30kV, 6.3kV and low voltage power supply systems,
  • • control and measurement equipment systems,
  • • concrete structures for the foundation of hydro units, motor-generator housings, evacuation tunnel,
  • • ventilation and air conditioning systems.

ESP Porąbka-Żar, owned by PGE Energia Odnawialna, is the second largest pumped storage power plant in Poland with a capacity of 500 MW and the only underground power plant in the country.

The contract signed by the Consortium of GE Hydro and Mostostal Warszawa with PGE Energia Odnawialna covers the modernization of the technological part and the replacement of four pump turbines and generators with a capacity of 125 MW. The contribution of Mostostal Warszawa to the implementation of this task is extremely important, because the modernization of this key facility for the National Power System will accelerate the energy transformation in Poland and extend the operating period of the hydroelectric power plant by several decades.
